IST Asia Pacific Section

The Asia Pacific Section of the IST was founded in 1987. It encompasses loosely the many countries in the Asia Pacific region, from western Asia to Japan to Australia. Since the first meeting of this section in 1987 in Singapore, there have been regular Section meetings showcasing the breadth and diversity of toxinology research in the region, reflecting the diversity and abundance of venomous and poisonous fauna in the region.

Next Planned IST Asia Pacific Section Meeting

The next meeting of the Asia-Pacific Section of the IST will be in Vladivostock, Russia, in September 4-8, 2011, at the Conference Hall of the Primorsky Region Administration (details to be posted later). Current contact person is Marina Tretyak. The main topics are; toxin structure & mode of action, proteomics & genomics, drug development, clinical toxinology, toxins miscellaneous. Organising Committee Chairmen are; Prof. Eugene Grishin and Prof. Valentin Stonik.

Most Recent IST Asia Pacific Section Meeting

The 8th Asia-Pacific Congress on Animal, Plant & Microbial Toxins, hosted by the Asia Pacific Section of the IST, was held in Hanoi and Halong Bay, Vietnam, December 1st to 6th, 2008.

This meeting on animal, plant, algal and microbial toxins covered various aspects of toxinology, including toxin structure, mode of action, and interaction with macromolecular targets. Special topics were also tackled including proteomics, genomics, clinical toxinology, physiology, pharmacology and toxin applications. Information about this Congress can be found on a dedicated website, www.toxinology.org.vn. This meeting was most successful, with a large number of papers presented. Some important resolutions were passes unanimously at this meeting. Specifically, IST members agreed to support, through the IST, the Global Initiative on Snakebite and support the IST becomming the lead accrediting body for medical training in the specialty of clinical toxinology.
